NOTE: Laser vision correction works by altering the curvature of the cornea, and thus the focusing power of the eye. In this way, like a camera, light rays are more accurately brought to a focus on the film or retina at the back of the eye.
Stage 1: Call Us
You decide you want to be glasses and contact lens free, and you call us for a Pre-operative clinical assessment.
Stage 2. Pre-opeative Clinical Assessment
This is when you will be examined and counselled in Dr Fink’s Ra’anana clinic.
Dr. Fink will advise you as to whether you are a suitable candidate, and if so which technique suits you best, explaining all you need to know to make an informed decision. Your pupils will be dilated which can make driving vision slightly blurry afterwards. Your questions are important and will be answered. Soft contact lenses should be left out for at least 3 days beforehand preferably, hard lenses for about 2 weeks if possible.
Basic requirements for laser vision correction include:
• You would love to stop being dependent on glasses and contact lenses and enjoy the freedom that brings.
• Your prescription is between -1 to -10 (near sight), or up to +4 (far sight), with or without cylinder up to 6 (astigmatism).
• You are between the ages of 18-65.
• You are dependent on glasses or contact lenses for distance vision.
• You have a stable glasses prescription.
• You don’t suffer from any eye disease and have good vision in both eyes with your glasses on.
• You are in good general health.
NOTE: Laser Vision Correction can also help patients who require glasses for reading and distance vision, but is not designed for those who have good distance vision and only require glasses for reading.
Stage 3. Laser Treatment Day
Treatments are performed in Dr Fink’s associate laser centres in Tel Aviv and Rishon LeZion.
You will be examined again to confirm your prescription and undergo further diagnostic assessments, and then receive anaesthetic drops. You will be in the laser room with Dr. Fink for about 10-15 minutes, whilst the laser treatment itself takes about 3-15 seconds, depending on your prescription. Dr. Fink will discharge you having received information about your eye drops. Overall you will be in the laser centre for about 1-2 hours.
Stage 4: Follow Up
All examinations take place in the Ra’anana clinic.
Lasik patients need to be seen the next day. PRK/ASA patients are usually seen 3-5 days later to remove the contact lens. Most Lasik patients can function well the next day. Most PRK/ASA patients are usually able to return to work after about 5 days with good functional vision. Final maximum vision can take a few weeks in both techniques.
Post-operative Restrictions
It is important not to rub your eyes, and not to let water enter your eyes during the first week. There is no restriction on reading, computer use, leaving the house or sport, according to how you feel, however your eyes may feel more sensitive than usual for example when in the sun or in a smokey atmosphere. Sun glasses should be worn when outside at all times. Make up should be avoided for the first week, and care should be taken not to rub your eyes after that, when removing the makeup. Swimming and opening your eyes under water should be avoided for 3 weeks.
Stage 5: Years of Spectacle Free Vision
